This image was taken on a medium format film and i feel it is my strongest image from the Identity Module. My work for this module was based on hidden identity and inspired by Elle Muliarchyk, Glen Luchford, Barbara Kruger, Rankin and Erwin Blumenfeld.
I wanted to express my self-consciousness and lack of confidence and the frustration it causes me. Also the nervousness and uncertainty I felt moving to Leeds and the pressure I felt I was under to make the right choices in life.
It was a lot easier for me to find inspiration at home than in Leeds simply as i was new to the area. The image i have chosen symbolizes my connection to the Northeast, having lived there most of my life and I consider it to be very much part of my identity.
It also expresses the affection and appreciation i have for the coast and living so close to it.
There is a direct reference to the Angel of the North, this reflects my pride in the north-east.
My body language is strong and confident, this is perhaps how i would like to be seen.
